Link Internship
Final Edit
Final link reflection
The biggest thing that surprised me was that my coach had picked the project so quickly and it seemed extremely do-able until the last week when we realized it's going to be hard to finish. I contributed by making a video my coach can use for future years in high-school to show kids how to properly hit. I made good progress on the project, completing about a third a week until the editing part came. That took a little longer than expected. I was expecting the amount of kids to be nerve-racking to me but it wasn't at all. I had a great time! My goal during the was to complete my project and challenge myself to get stronger and I accomplished connecting with my coach more. It was one on one coaching a lot of the time so I had a lot of personal learning experiences. The skills I have developed were running with proper form and I learned how to lift with proper form as while as getting to master creating new drills off what I learned. This experience has just ensured I want to be doing something in the athletic field when I grow up.
Week two
For week two on my journey further into the internship experience my mentor and I were busy at work researching lifting forms and techniques and putting together coaching points and different drill we can teach the incoming freshman and eighth graders. I learned not only better form for myself but also where to research this kind of material and how to implement it into our own drills. We had a lot of success with finding what drill we should teach and finding good ways to teach them although we had a lot of challenges with filming because my mentor did each lift so he would have to do them perfect every time. I think I made a couple mistakes just not hitting record when I should have making my coach do the exercise twice. I fixed this by being ready at every second . I worked with my mentor all week and we finished the plan for the video. My goals for the upcoming week is to film the rest of our drills.
Week one
For week one on my journey into the internship experience my mentor and I were busy at work researching linear speed and putting together coaching points and different drill we can teach the incoming freshman and eighth graders. I learned not only better form for myself but also where to research this kind of material and how to implement it into our own drills. We had a lot of success with finding what drill we should teach and finding good ways to teach them although we had a lot of challenges with working, we both found each other wanting to play basketball. I don’t think I made any mistakes but the closest thing to one would be me getting lost inside Durango High School because I am not used to such a big high school. I fixed this by being friendly with the students so I can ask for directions when needed. I worked with my mentor all week and we finished the outline to the video of my LINK project. My goals for the upcoming week is to film half of the drills we put in place to teach in the future.
My mentor's name is David Vogt. He is the head football coach of Durango high school as well as a health teacher, team sports teacher, and weight coach. I am hoping my mentor can shed light on a rigorous day from lifting in the morning with the football team to lecturing in a classroom about health. I'm excited to all there is about how to not only be a better athlete but how to teach it in an effective way to others. My goals are to learn about different exercises about how to best workout for what you're working for, and my goals for my career I know want to be somewhere around the athletic field and this relates to my LINK internship by being able to learn and experience it first hand. My project will be after extensive research a workout instructional video specialized for athletes training for football. It supports the work of my football coach greatly by giving him a video to show the incoming freshman to help coach and for them to study the proper form and technique of the workouts my mentor chooses for them. It contributes to the local community by helping out the Durango football team with our workout program. I hope to learn from this project perfect form and the most effective way to workout for my sport. I am already prepared for my internship due to seeing my mentor everyday already. Some skills and knowledge I can improve before my internship are video editing for my project. Setting up for my internship I no problems arose so entering was refreshing after all the anticipation. I'm really excited for my internship, although I am a little nervous to be surrounded by all the kids due to how I go to Animas High School I am not used to as many kids that Durango High School has. I am mostly excited about my internship and to be able to hang out and learn from my football coach.
what is Link?
Link internship is a three week internship with an organization or business of any category, and the point of them are to give us high schoolers a some insight of what are passion job looks like to a day to day basis. It not only can help us decide if that is something we would like to do as an adult but it can also be a crutch to experience something we know we will not want to do for a living. During these internships we had to create a project that can someway help the business or community in some way.
