Brave New WOrld
In this Project we got to read the book “Brave New World”. Then we had a seminar about brave new world and we talked about what happiness is for them, we just discussed our own opinions on the matter. After that we got to open up and research about happiness in general not just from the book “Brave New World”. We got to write a essay about happiness in a broad perspective. The last and funniest part was when we had a happiness seminar at the exhibition where the parents got to put into the conversation.
happiness essay
In order to achieve happiness today we must do activities we like, we need to stay calm and process what is happening, keep what is meaning full to you and happiness together, and if you work hard on something that you’re proud of it will make you happy.
I feel like finding happiness is so important to us as humans because if you aren’t happy there is a big chance that you may not have a lot of friends or your life just hasn’t been on track. Humans whether or not you like it are social animals so find happiness can mean to find people that like and care for you so you’re not alone and have someone or a whole group to socialize with. Also I think it is just in our nature to want to have happiness we grew up to want, to crave this happiness. Now I don’t know if we were to be grown up learning that happiness is bad we would not want to be happy and that would be an interesting experiment. Although I don’t think that person would be able to see everyone else being happy or it would ruin it. Although Happiness in the book Brave New World is much different, their happiness is taking soma and “going on holiday” that’s where they drug themselves so much they are in there own little world. Also happiness there is when everyone does their own role and it’s all organized nothing unmoral can happen.
There are a lot of things that make me happy, some hard to gain and some easy to gain happiness. Either way I feel I'm an easy going person. First, happiness travels in many different ways, according the movie “Happy” it insists that fifty percent of our happiness is all baseline happiness which means your average happiness level it’s what you start and end at. Also forty percent of our happiness is intentional so that is stuff you do to yourself to make yourself happy like getting ice cream or just something you choose to do, that last ten percent is your health and your social status so depending on how many friends you have and how healthy you feel is only a whopping ten percent of our happiness! Also, it states that people that can get “in the zone” tend to be happier and I can actually vouch for this fact because when I play football I do get “in the zone.” It is my favorite sport I have the most fun playing it. Being in the zone means you’re totally focused on the task at hand and it feels like nothing else matters at that moment but the task you is doing. So in ways if your surround yourself with things you like you can bet on being happier.
One thing that I really like about happiness is you truly don’t need all the luxury in the world, all you need is a bright mind and the rest will come. In the movie “Happy” it stated that “A rickshaw driver is as happy as an average American because of all his family members and friends.” He walks all day carrying people everywhere yet he is just as happy as someone who can take a car to work and not do any heavy lifting at all if they wanted. Also, in the movie “Happy” it says “Denmark is the happiest country in the world caused by their community and how people interact with each other.” In Denmark they live in a communal building in which they can have up to twenty families living in one home. The people who live there are always so involved in each other’s lives. A little girl who lived in one of these homes said, “It’s nice being able to run around and not being worried about falling over because I know someone will come to my aid and it does not have to be my mom.” I find that interesting because it would be like having an expanded family. In order to find happiness you must find peace. Change is not always bad if it indeed makes you happy and you don’t always need the internet.
Meaning can defiantly be related to happiness, it depends what is meaningful to you and how much that will determine how happy it will make you. Money and more stuff will not make you happier. If you have a the average amount of money and the average amount of stuff then getting more money and more stuff will not make you happier. The movie “I Am” stated, “one million dollars might make you happy but two million dollars will not make you twice as happy.” I believe in what their trying to say because what are you going to be able to do with that extra million? Probably brag about it but just keep it in your basement and never use it, what good is it if you never need it? Also from the movie “I Am” it has a quote said by Ralph Waldo Emerson saying “The world is his who can see through its pretentions… See it to be a lie and you have already dealt with its mortal blow.” What this means to me is that if we can find a way to look at the world through a whole new way, a way not so much as consumption but as nature intended then you have figured out the answers to being happy and the world will be yours.
At what cost we should seek happiness is self-conditioning in a sense of temporary pain caused by working out or just training rigorously for an event or a sport that you want to excel in. In the Article “There’s more to life than being happy” Its states that “four out of ten Americans said they don’t see meaning in life.” What I think is there is not a purpose for human life as a whole but yet a more specific purpose that each individual has their own purpose and needs to find it, for instance a famous singers purpose in life would be to entertain people and make people happy and yourself in that way. What it also said in the article “There’s more to life than being happy” is that some happiness is meaningless, but is usually more selfish in the sense that you do something for you and only you like eating a candy bar makes you happy but its selfish because you are not sharing it. That would be meaningless because eating a candy bar doesn’t really make you gain anything but your weight. What I'm getting at is you don’t have any new skill, any new sense of who you are or anything from eating a candy bar therefore it’s a meaningless happiness. The one thing you should truly do your life time is find what your purpose is in life. Now I'm not trying to tell you how to live your life but I feel it will make you a lot happier if you do.
To create a society that values authentic happiness would be the hardest task to achieve right next to world peace, I believe it would be almost impossible because you would need to get rid of drugs and any false happiness. But to create this type of world we would need to change the very way we think of how we need new products we would need to end this raid of consumerism. If I had to tell a friend how to find happiness tomorrow I would probably say something like don’t be a follower be a leader and just do what you to do. Also just take what you need. I would tell him or she not to feel jealous because that that’s not happiness at all just remember the grass is not greener on the other side. To achieve happiness it is critical to examine how we input new information to our brain and realize what causes us to be unhappy. Once we know what makes us truly unhappy we will know what truly makes us happy. No one can be perfectly free until all are free; no one can be perfectly moral until all are moral; no one can be perfectly happy until all are happy.

Project Reflection
If I were to advise someone on how to find happiness I would tell them first to find flow in their life. Also find an activity that you can do often to get “in the zone.” Getting in the zone will allow you to not worry about the things around you and let you focus on the task at hand which should cause happiness. One other thing you can do is surround yourself with friends and family that love you so very much. The last thing I would say to do is not go on any social media sites because it gives you a false realization on how happy your friends are which can cause you to be jealous and sometimes it can lead to depression.
This summer my goal will be to go outside more and do more activities. Like the article said we spend too much time on our phone I feel I spend too much time on the television, especially during the summer because there isn’t anything to do. So what I'm going to do is go to football practice early so I wake up then I will try to go down town and hang out with friends. This will help me because instead of being inside on the couch I will be outside with my friends having a good time. One other thing is I will try to have quality time with my family more because I feel sometimes I might blow them off to hang with my friend or even just watch television.
Looking back on this project what will impact my life by how I look at happiness and whether or not I'm happy because I now have a broader understanding of the meaning happiness. Also I feel I will treat others with more respect because I know that being social makes us happy. One other thing is I will try to find a job that I can find flow in because that can cause you to happy along with being in the zone. This will impact my life by me realizing what kind of friends I want. Also I will be able to find what makes me happy because I know what to look for.

Model United Nations
This project was about the United Nations. We have to study a country And act as if we were speaking for them. We had to study other world problems from our countrys point of view. Also we got to learn about what the United Nations even are. One other thing we had to do was present a conference of us solving a problem in front of our parents.

Policy Paper
by: Travis VonTersch
Although Germany about five thousand sixtysix point fifty seven miles away, they still have nuclear issues with each other.
On March 1, 2001 Germany and North Korea made a full diplomatic relations. According to the agreement in this connection, diplomatic relations are goaled towards securing the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, But that agreement was in the past and has failed. Why I say they have nuclear Issues is because they barely communicate in theses times according the the article “Germany urges China to use influence on North Korea” according to the article is says "I urge China to use its influence to persuade Pyongyang that sabre-rattling, war rhetoric, provocations and infringements of international law must come to an end" (German). Germany can't even talk to North Korea or hasn't in a while. they use their allies if they need to tell or urge North Korea to do something. Also Germany thinks that North Korea's acts are just unacceptable. According to the article “S Korea-Germany-NK threats” that says “The German minister told Yun that the North's recent threats were "unacceptable" and his country "will play all possible roles to resolve the North Korean issue," the ministry said in a statement” (Seoul). If they or when they do something about it is unknown as of today.
Germanys perspective on North Korea's nuclear issues are that it is getting old and they must stop. Germany rarely ever talks to North Korea so they tell China to tell North Korea if needed. Germany said that if they don't stop soon then they will do whatever it takes to stop them and that could be really bad. That could mean starting a war and I hope not nuclear because that could cause a lot of collateral damage. I don't think any country right now wants to start anything nuclear right now because it could wipe out a lot of people, with nuclear weapons it would be like each county just getting one good hit before it's destroyed. One other reason Germany thinks this act of nuclear obsession North Korea has is not okay, fromt the article “Germany summons North Korean ambassador” says that “North Korea alarmed friends and foes alike on Tuesday when it carried out its latest nuclear test, which US and South Korean monitors said was much more powerful than the previous tests in 2006 and 2009” (Germany on). So if there bombs keep getting stronger we may have a bigger and bigger problem.

North Korea Nuclear Weapons
HOPEFULL SOLUTIONS TO NORTH KOREA’S NUCLEAR ISUSSES
General Assembly,
Understanding that North Korea Would be completely defenseless is they got rid of their nuclear weapons,
Acknowledging that even though they tell us they don’t produce nuclear weapons they still do and aware of them testing nuclear weapons,
Deeply disturbed by them going back and forth on their word from not making nuclear weapons to making nuclear weapons,
Observing that North Koreas Nuclear power is becoming more powerful every day, and that the United Nation are and have been watching them closely. Also how they want even more Nuclear Power.
Bearing in mind that North Korea has threatened Germany and all surrounding countries, they are on the cusp of starting a war with South Korea and the United Staes of America.
1. Draws attention to the Security Council and the General Assembly to denuclearize North Korea in one way or another;
2. Expresses that If North Korea will not give up There nuclear weapons they will be taken by force using the United Nations army;
3. Encouraging the Security Council and the General Assembly to try to negotiate first with North Korea;
4. If needed give them access to have one or two Nuclear Reactor to supply energy to North Korea run by a neighboring countries;
(a) They need to be checked on every so often to ensure there not using it for nuclear weapons,
(b) If they are found using it for more than nuclear energy they will be banned from using any nuclear energy but still checked on to ensure they aren’t;
5. Any countries need access to any Part of North Korea as long as they don’t inflict harm against North Korea;
6. Condemns North Korea from having any future test launches of Nuclear weapons unless talked to and agreed upon from the Security Council;
7. Encourages at the beginning the Security Council or to whoever it may concern can tour North Korea to ensure no Nuclear weapon Activities;
8. For further resolutions The General Assembly and the Security council put their view on the resolution.
Germanys view of Israel/ Palestine conflict
Although Germany has a so called special Relationship with Israel and they want to maintain that friendship, Germany believes that Israelis and Palestinians should come to good terms with each other and share the land as one so this fighting will end, also There are holy lands for both and neither of them want to give those up.
The Israel/Palestine conflict is a big deal right now because the Israelis are living there but the Palestinians want that land. Germany thinks they should share the land. Germany even helps set up meeting to where Israel and Palestine can talk, for example According to the Article “Germany urges Israel-Palestinian peace talks”, it states that ““The most important thing is that direct talks between Israel and the Palestinians can take place again," said Westerwelle, who met with outgoing premier Salam Fayyad in Ramallah. The German minister also stressed the importance for a peaceful outcome of economic development in the Palestinian territories” (Ramallah). If we don’t find a solution soon they can be fighting for who knows how much longer. Also Germany has even been talking to the United States about finding a solution and fast, according to the article “Germany's Merkel to back Kerry peace efforts during Israel visit” Reuters says that “We need a stable two-state solution as soon as possible, with a Jewish state of Israel as well as a state for the Palestinians," Merkel said in her weekly video podcast on Saturday” (Reuters). Right now Palestinians aren't allowed into Israel so that is why
VonTersch 2
We need a two state solution. One last thing I that Germany is for Zionist according to the article “Why is the German Left Unconditionally Supporting Israel?” Hermann Dierkes said “the Left Party of Germany, and a member of the city council of Duisburg in Germany. Members of the inner party sect shalom, real hardliners defending Zionist Israel and militant anti-Muslim propagandists” (Hermann Dierkes).
There have been a lot of thought through solutions but the one that I really think will work is if we split up Israel into two different countries with Israel on the south side and Palestine on the North side keeping in mind there holy lands. The Reason that Israel would be on the south is that they want to be as far away from Syria because they are rivals, that wouldn't go down so well. We would have a neutral zone in the middle kind of like Jerusalem is now. What we will do is make the Neutral Zone big enough now to work but in time they come more in peace with each other so the neutral zone will get smaller and smaller, eventually the hope is it will be one country again. Also Germany economic situation would be better too because they would get a long and it would make deals easier. Germany does a lot of business related stuff according to the article “Determinants of Foreign Policy toward the Arab-Israeli Conflict” it says “However, there are two important points which should be emphasized in this context. First, the economic dimension of German interests is still, in contrast to what is usually expected, not the driving force behind the German foreign policy toward the Middle East” (Review of International Law and Politics). Therefore I think this solution would not only benefit Israel/Palestine but it helps other countries to and that’s it would be the best solution.
General Assembly
Germany (Travis VonTersh)
Israel/Palestine conflict
Israel/Palestine Conflict Resolution
The General Assembly,
Fully aware that Israelis and Palestinians both want all the land but Israel is
rivals with a lot of surrounding countries so there really isn’t anywhere for the Israelis to go,
Understanding that the Palestine and Israel conflict has been going on since 1948 and the Israelis stole the rightful land from the Palestinians forcing them to live in exile camps or just leave the country all together when they should be sharing the land,
Alarmed by how the Palestinian living in refugees and exile camps are treated so unfairly and how they aren't allowed to travel also they are afraid of being killed on a daily bases,
Bearing in mind that both Israel and Palestine have holy land so the two countries deserve to get some of the land,
Fully Alarmed of what a Palestine Refugee Rafat said “I Experience many examples of suffering on almost a daily basis” (doc 4),
Aware of the how there are more than thirty-thousand Palestinian refugees in
Israel right now with not proper water, electricity, and the essentials to live,
Keeping in mind this is not a new subject and it will take some time to fix with a lot of effort,
1. Emphasizing that the two state solutions will work with the Following:
(a) Separate The Sate down the middle with Israel on the south end and
Palestine on the North end;
(b) A neutral zone in the middle to where Israel and Palestine are separated
so they can't harm each other;
2. Guided by the neutral zone, we make it as big as it need to be at first but hopefully they come more in peace with each other so then the neutral zone will get smaller and smaller and be one country again,
3. Calls upon the United Nations army to guard the borders not to inflict violence but to ensure the peace between the countries and to gage how when they can shrink the neutral zone if they can,
4. Further recommends that Israelis and Palestinians live in the neutral zone to show they are coming into peace:
(a) you can only live in the neutral zone if you promise not to cause problems;
(b) If you cause problems you have to leave to your respected state;
(c) If you disrespect the neutral zone you can't ever enter it again;
5. Requests that Israel is on the south side because they are rivals with close
surrounding countries and the south would be the furthest from them:
(a) that would avoid other problems involving other countries;
6. Supports any peaceful interactions between Israelis and Palestinians in hope the
no longer are enemies,
7. Notes that there will have to be a twenty-four hour guarded borders so that
violence doesn't break out that’s why there will be shifts of the army from the United
Nations.
Project Reflection:
There are countless reasons I would tell another student why this United Nations project is so important, but I would say one of the main reasons would be that we got to learn about what happens with the bigger part of the world. Not just what happens here in our own little country. I think That this is important because often we are just boxed in to our own country. This way we learn about how other countries comunicate and other world problems.
When I think of the conference the biggest heart of mind I was proud of was perspective because we have to put our point of view into a totally different country and I saw everyone stayed in character. I am proud of it because how often do get to no only act as another person but act as another country as a whole and say what you think they should do? no often I know. I am also proud of it because we got to show off how much we studied our country's perspective to all our parents.
The greatest Challenge I was faced with during this project was definitely keeping up and catching up after I missed two days of school. The way I worked around it was by keeping in contact with my teachers because if I wouldn't have done that I would have an F right now due to late or missing assignments. Also I just did a lot of homework because if I did my late work at school then I would miss other stuff from that day so I had to do the work given to me that day in class and do my late work at home.
I thought the most interesting speech was was Alexas because of how confident she was. I feel like she was the most confident at the podium so her speech came through a lot more clearly. I knew why she was saying and I knew what she wanted and she did that great speech after all night losing in the motions she tried to pass, she still stayed strong though and thats why I liked it best.

Prologue:
(Phil, a hard working parole officer that has been on the force for 13 years, his mother has had multiple heart attacks and is on expensive medication that is not covered by health insurance. Phil is talking to the doctor in his living room.)
Phil: (To the doctor) 500 bucks a month?! C’mon doc moneys tight.
Doctor: (Sitting in an armchair in Phil’s living room) Sir you act like I can change the price. I’m sorry Mr.Nicks, this medication is guaranteed to treat your mother's condition.
Phil: (Phil getting aggravated) Can you guarantee she lives a while longer?
Doctor: Sir, I can guarantee she gets better if you pay for her meds.
(Phil sighs and agrees to the medication expenses and the doctor leaves his home, the scene then closes)
Chorus:
(as Phil’s conscious)
You’re right
The meds are very expensive
But family comes first
You must provide for your family
This will be better for your entire family
Your wife and Celia will stop worrying
Your mother will be in less pain
Its one less thing to worry about
Scene 1
(Scene opens in the morning of Philips house and everyone is getting ready for school and work, his daughter packing her backpack, and his wife making a sandwich for Celia (his daughter) and Philip is sipping coffee while reading the newspaper.)
Phil:(To Phil’s wife, Rachel) I have been thinking...
Rachel: What's on your mind?
Phil: I think I should quit my job because my mother just had another heart attack and as you know she can't work anymore she is too old so I want to find a job with a good healthcare deal. I can't afford all her medication with my job now its to hard and I need to provide for my immediate family too, what if one of you have an accident what then?
Rachel: I'm not sure what would happen, but i’ll tell you this that whatever you choose I will support you. Now take Celia to school before she is late.
Celia: (Shouts from the other room and enters the kitchen) I’m ready!
(Both Celia and Phil leave the house)
(In the car on the way to school)
Celia: (Worried) Daddy, are you getting fired, is grandma sick again!?
Phil: Everything will be fine just dont worry about it. Just have fun at school.
Celia: (As Celia gets out of the car) okay, i’ll try. I love you daddy.
Phil: Love you too now hurry and run before your late.
(Phil leaves the school parking lot and make his way to his office in the middle of town, the scene then closes)
Chorus:
(as Phil’s conscious)
Your family is starting to worry
Let them know that things will be okay
Even if they won’t be
Keep your family for worrying
Even if it means lying to them
Keep things under control
Thats all that matters now
Try and stay happy
Scene 2
(When Philip gets to work)
Phili: Oh, I don't know what to do boys should I quit to find a job with some good health care?
Parolee: The way I look at it is if you wanted it do it just, you might want to find a job before you quit this one. Health care bankrupts hundreds of thousands of people annually and will even kill them sometimes. In a case like yours, it's crucial that you find the money to take care of you mother.
Philip: You know I was reading this article “The most efficient healthcare systems In the world” and it was talking about how we have one of the worst health care systems in the world and we spend the second most on it in the whole world.
Parolee: Wow, well then you probably should get a new job then.
Phil: Yeah it also said that If you apply for health insurance you can get denied for really stupid thing like ADHD or even just like acne.
Parolee: Now remember if you get health care at your next job, if you get a new job you get really good deals like my friends wife was pregnant and when the baby came it was only five dollars because his health insurance covered a majority of it.
Phil: Oh well thats good, I did not know that.
Parolee: Think of it this way. Do you enjoy your job? Do you really deserve this kind of pay and with no health insurance benefits? As opposed to a worker at Home Depot? Now you are probably telling yourself “yes, I am doing just on money and I will help my mom out with her medication” but some thing else is telling you different, something is saying “you need more money” and you are believing that. I'm not the one to talk obviously but you need to start scraping together more money or find a new job if you want to keep your mother around for longer.
Phil: I'm going to tell myself that you are wrong, and you’re just a stupid thief.
Parolee: Yea? And you think your mother will be okay huh? Saying your mom will be fine is like saying OJ loved Nicole. Your mother needs help, and you are oblivious to it. You may be able to pay for her medication but what happens when you can't pay for food? Or you run out of gas?
Phil: I don't care about your beat down on myself and family! At this point we’re doing better than you. Now you best shut up or i’ll accidently find something illegal on you and put you in jail.
Parolee: Why don't you do it then? Health insurance is free in there. As opposed to someone like you who has to pay 700 dollars a month, or whatever the big number is. It’s funny how we use fear to help you through a crisis isn't it? You would think that we would be supportive in a situation like this. Why would we be caring and compassionate, all you’re doing by waiting for more money to come in is digging a deeper hole for yourself and your family. Let me tell you one thing, the longer you sit around and put off all the health insurance stuff, is making your mom sicker every minute. You may be able to pay for her medication and insurance, but what happens when Celia needs money for herself? Then Mama Nicks is in trouble. Phil listen, go home and look for low paying jobs that provides health insurance, I’m going to be silent until you come back tomorrow with three possible jobs.
Boss: Phil please come in my office you have a phone call.
Phil: Yes sir i'll be right there.
Boss: It's the hospital they need to talk to you about you mom
Phil: Hello? Is everything okay!?
Doctor: Well Philipp your mom had another stroke, we are going to need to put her in a assisted living home where professionals can look after her or I'm not sure how much longer you will have her.
Phil: No! She is perfectly fine living with me! Thank you very much but I have things completely under control. I will not send her off to a home where I won't be able to afford plus she deserves more than eating oatmeal for dinner every night for the rest of her lonely life.
Doctor: Look sir I understand what you’re going through but we need to do something or I don't know what will happen.
Phil: I have everything under control! (slamming the phone back on its dock)
(Phil’s day carries on as any other an the scene closes)
Chorus:
(as Phil’s conscious)
Things are getting serious
You may want to look into a new job
That way you don’t devote too much money on health care
But why take advice from a felon
He don't know anything
Why would he want to help you
There isn't an escape from it
America’s health care will always be a problem
Scene 3
(5 weeks later before phil returns home after a long day at his new job with health care he first goes to the local pharmacy to pick up his moms medication, when he get home he sees an ambulance outside his home, Phil’s stomach drops and tears come to his eyes as he rushes to the back of the ambulance, paramedics inform him that his mother has as had her third stroke, he fears the worst and his tears flow like rivers)
Doctor:(outside driveway) I'm sorry Sir but she is…dead (as he hangs his head in sorrow)
Philip: But…but...this can’t happen to me…not now…not as soon as I
Phil:(at home talking to his wife) It makes no sense I have been a perfectly good guy I mean I got a job with health care I can afford moms meds now. Wasn’t she suppose to be getting better?
Rachel: It doesn't just happen like that, Phil. Health care does this to thousands of people each year.
Phil: You don't understand do you! I devoted so much time and money into her and she just……. dies.
Rachel: Im sorry.
Phil: I know it's just I loved her, she never left me as a kid unlike my deadbeat dad who left me at 12 years old mom didn’t even have a job at that time but she was always there when I needed something and I promised her when I was a little boy that I would take care of her when she is old and I would never leave her side and i would buy her a house and I just didn’t want to give up on her yet. (Tears roll to his eyes as he tries to hold back from crying of the thought of is mom not being for there for him any longer.)
Chorus:
(as Phil’s conscious)
Everything will be okay Phil
You did all you could and thats all that matters
She is in a better...happier place now its okay
Just know she loves you
People will look to you as a hero
You invested time and money into your mom
Just as she did to you as a child
There’s no need to worry.

There are a lot of things I am proud of but the thing I am most proud of would have to be how well the pictures came out and how real they looked. Im proud of it because we took a lot of time the clay figures so it feels really good to know they came out good. I also think Im proud of it because the scene corresponded with the background really well. I was never a random picture behind it. One other thing why I am proud of it is because all the pictures were high quality and not pixelated.
Advice to give a student next year about how to be successful in this project would definitely don't waste your time. Start the project as soon as you can because you will need all the time you are given. Also even though you're crunched for time make sure its nice work and don't go too fast if you start as soon as you can and you actually work you will be fine on time. One other thing is that keep track to all your stuff because things get lost or ruined really easy if you don't keep track of it. That is what I would tell a incoming freshman entering Animas High School.
I feel working with my partner went great, no it went amazing because we are really good friends but we still got work done and I think the work we did was really good. We got all our work done on time and still had fun doing it. I feel like creating the clay figures went really good, we put a lot of work into them so they would look good and high quality. Yes I feel it worked out well in the way that we got work done and good but we still had fun. I think the challenging part was working on the script outside of school because we both had to be free and ready to work. We did work through that though and worked through the weekend and some school nights were needed.
What proved to be the hardest thing in this project getting the all of the words in the word bubbles because it took so much time and you would need a really steady hand to get all the work where you want it on the page. Also we had a lot of words and kind of small boxes so we had to scrunch all the work into one little box and on one of them I know I had to split up the line and take an extra picture so we could put the rest of the line in the graphic novel. The way we worked around it was by taking my time and going slow, slow enough to where i could finish on time but I also had to make the font really small. That is mostly how I worked around it.

MY Mask: |
Travis VonTersch
The Identity of My Social Class 10/7/13 This paragraph will be about stereotypes. Race is a fierce subject and should be dealt with carefully, that is why I’m here. This world clearly shows that racism is an issue in it right now just look at New York they have something called a “stop and frisk” and that’s where police can stop you and search you without a warrant if they think you look like you are up to something. The video in the show "The Daily Show, where two Women Just Proved Why Talking About Race Is One Of The Most Important Things You Can Do” the colored panel said that they have all a “stop and frisk” and none of the white panel had got a “stop and frisk”. Even when the white girl was interviewing the colored panel she almost couldn’t even ask them she was so nerves. Then when the colored woman was interviewing the white panel she was fine and was not nerves at all. Again when the white women was interviewing the colored panel she started sweeting and hyperventilating. One more thing is in the article “White Privilege: Unpacking the invisible knapsack” the author describes how people from his race widely represented “I can turn on the television or open the front page of the newspaper and see people widely represented.” That is why I think it is such a delicate subject, there is so much racism and we can’t even talk about it to maybe solve the problem. I have ben socialized by society and the media to believe that “god is REAL”, that white people always have it good and we are all wealthy, also as a teenager I’m supposed to be heartless and dishonest. In this paragraph I want to talk about how everyone thinks that every teenager is a stereotypical teenager and for a lot of the time that is not true at all. Most teenagers are actually really nice if you just get to know him. I know this because well I’m a teenager and I have been called a “bad kid” or “trouble maker” whatever you want to call a not so well behaved child but when people actually get to know me they find I’m a good kid that is nice and honest. They figure out that I'm not a stereotypical boy. Like a stereotypical teenager is supposed to mean and rude to other kids that aren’t in there friend circle because you’re supposed to be cooler than them and to be honest I don’t think I'm that mean to other kids or feel the need to be mean to be cooler than other teenagers. Also we are supposed to not care about a lot of things like in the sense of asking about someone’s day or something and quite tranquilly I ask how peoples day are and talk to them about that type of stuff all the time and I do care, so that one is rubbish to. The worst one of all is that all teenage boys do drugs and vandalize everything and they are just up to known good but I have never done drugs and I don’t think any of my friends have and we are considered the most unbehaved freshmen. So In conclusion a teenage boy is nothing what you think he is. Another thing that I want to talk about is that if you grow up in a religious house than you’re pretty much entitled to being that religion. How I know this is because my family is like that, they are mostly christen but I don’t know if I believe in that. For example my family used to go to church and I had to so it was like Christianity was forced upon me at a young age. The cartoon “the Simpsons” even marge the wife makes the family go to church and I feel like that is not right because we should be able to find our own religion without being forced on one or so if we are atheist we know earlier in life so they don’t have to sit in a church listing to something they don’t believe is true. Or like some families pray before eating and that most likely not the children’s choice it’s the parents who decide that’s what they want to do and it forces them to start to believe what their parents believe, and the last two examples were also stereotypes of a religious family. One other thing that I feel is forcing religion onto the young kids of this country is how we have “in god we trust” on money and that is really pushing that everyone should believe in god. That is why I think a lot of people are unhappy with their religion, is because they don’t know anything else when they are young so they just keep what they were given. One thing I think we should do is talk about race more in America so it’s not such a scary subject and it might make that problem slowly disappear because its talked about and people are aware that it is a problem. Also, we should not judge people for that matter although that will probably never happen we can try and we can try to change that one person at a time and just realize you doing it in the act so you can stop yourself in the act. Lastly I think we could just be more understanding about religion by letting you choose yourself and not be with the group, unless u wants to be in the group than you still having that choice. What is going to be on my mask is a stereotypical teenage boy on one half and then me on the other and it will mean how much different I am than a teen that you think I am although not a lot of people think so. Also how the stereotypical teen is dripping into the non-stereotypical teen side because there are becoming more stereotypes every year. Thanks for reading my paper and my essay about socialization. |
